In case you don’t know who I am, I’m Debi Taylor-Hough — author, speaker, editor, and (most importantly!) mom to three wonderful (not-so-little anymore) people.
And I’ve been doing this whole frugal/simple thing for a very long time.
Over two decades ago, our family bucked the tide of late-20th Century American life. We became a one income family in a two income world. We set out on a journey toward frugal living and simplicity that quickly became an education in itself—and a rewarding, joy-filled lifestyle.
Through hard work and determination, our family:
- paid off outstanding consumer debt and medical bills
- radically reduced spending in every area of our lives
- and most importantly, lived to tell about it!
During our family’s lean times, we learned creative ways to stretch our limited finances while not sacrificing our quality of life.
BOOKS
I share my knowledge of cooking for the freezer in my first book, Frozen Assets: Cook for a Day, Eat for a Month. I’ve taught freezer-meal techniques to thousands of people through in-person workshops, discussion groups, radio programs, television spots, and a variety of on-line resources.
In my second book, A Simple Choice: A Practical Guide for Saving Your Time, Money and Sanity, I share some of what I’ve learned firsthand about raising a family and managing a household with limited time and money. And staying sane in the process!
I have several other books on the market now including: Frugal Living for Dummies® and Frozen Assets Lite & Easy.
Several more books are in the works, so check back for updates!
WORKSHOPS
I regularly teach classes and workshops through women’s groups, churches, conferences, and community education programs on the topics of:
- living within your means
- simple living
- cooking for the freezer
- general homemaking
- identifying personal priorities
- simplifying the holidays
- easy educational ideas for children
- … and more!
EMAIL NEWSLETTER
I edit and publish, Simple Times, a free email newsletter reaching 27,000+ readers throughout the world. It’s one of the longest-running, continously published email newsletters online! We started sending Simple Times to a small handful of frugal folk in early 1995 … and we’ve been at it ever since! Amazing. Where did the time go? I recently set up new online archives for Simple Times.

Wow! You’re my kind’ve lady! I am going to buy some of your books for sure!! Sounds like just the help I need! (especially the frugal one and the cooking one, although I’ll need to buy a new freezer first! LOL) Anyway, wow, I didn’t know you were a celeb! Can’t wait to get your books!!
God bless you and I love your new blog! Very cute header too!
Jen
Really? Okay then, I’m going to try it! I guess I just need to use up what’s in my freezer now and quit buying expensive Costco dishes in the freezer section! LOL Thanks!
Regarding your “Life The Journey” blog and your upset due to readers’ comments, all I can say is this: The internet is a cold, cruel place where people can say all kinds of horrible things because it’s anonymous and removed from face-to-face interaction. I’m sooo sorry you’ve been hurt. Not surprising you would feel more from one bad comment than 10 good ones — isn’t that the human condition?! BUT, there are some of us “strangers” who truly care and are praying for you, your kids, your pets, your husband. While I would hate to see your blog go, or see you censor yourself, the most important thing you can do is PROTECT YOURSELF any way necessary. This world is wounding enough without trying to avoid hurt as much as possible. I apologize on behalf of all the unfeeling, rude blog-readers out there! Remember who you are in GOD and hopefully it will be easier to ignore the negative strangers! With warmth and love, Connie, Gulf Shores, AL

Debi,
I loved your pruning article this month. It was simply beautiful! Thanks for all you continue to do.
Blessings,
Marci
Debi, I have the book Frozen Assets and was all gang busters for about a year, several years ago. In this time of blogs, I was wondering if you knew of any “challenges” or itemized monthly goals for simplifying one’s life. I need motivation to keep going, yes, I know the results should be enough, but I find I respond well to group efforts or challenges. I suppose I could come up with my own for myself, but there you have the lack of self motivation. Anyway, I envy you for your frugal, organized, basic ways!

I have seen that you have an audio workshop, but do you have a video or dvd workshop? I would love to be able to use it in our homeschool support group!
Wow. You’re a busy bee like me:) Would love to connect and help promote your site for free also have great way to promote your books. Stop by or email me! Have great day:)
I hope I am not out of line on this, it is all new to me. I was reading about your water heater, and how some other things have been breaking down without the means to fix them. We have all been in that position. I joined a group called freecycle.com and it is a group of postings that are offers, wants, and then taken and received of items that people are no longer using. I have given many things on this, including appliances (that were all in great condition), instead of just storing them in the garage. The rule is – there can be no exchange of money for the items, they are all free.
Hope this helps.
Have a great day

Dear Deborah,
I’m a freelance writer, and I’m writing a query about how college students can save money when it comes to food. I came to you because of your Frozen Assets book, and I hope that you’re expert enough to assist me. I hope to hear from you within a week. My email is enclosed.
Do you write articles and recipes for other sites?
Thanks.
You have wonderful recipes! I’m a new mommy Blogger, just getting started. I love your blog, lots of wonderful things to read!

I love your blog, so much information i can get and learn .
Glad to have found your blog today. I also have a blog about simple living, with a focus on food. Adding you to my reader – congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
Deborah, is your blog up and running still? Looks like the last post was in 2010….
I’d love to read more if it is. I’ve just written a book for moms called “You Don’t Have to Go It Alone; passing on wisdom about motherhood to the next generation” that I’m working on getting ‘out there’. It’s written from a Christian perspective and follows the story of a young woman, young, pregnant and temporarily in need of a home. She comes to live with a large and very human Christian family and notices that they seem to enjoy one another…and that there’s peace in the home (most of the time, anyway!) She askes the mother to tell her the secret, and the rest of the book consists of their conversations on all kinds of topics relevant to raising a family: training your child, nagging (or not), where to find wisdom, the power of our words, how to teach your child to love, etc.
I love the things your blog is about and thought this might be a good fit.
I’d love to hear your response if this is still up and running.
Thanks, Kitty Block (kwblock@gmail.com)
